My interest in the concept of “otherness” stems from the multiple cultural identities
that I am comprised of, and of navigating them as a woman. My perpetually “alien” status has also generated an impulse to
stretch “otherness” to include the viewpoints of entities such as animals and
objects, as a way of constructing a realm of connectedness.
My eclectic identity is mirrored in the flexibility I have with using a multitude of
media. It somehow seems inappropriate to commit to a single medium (such as
painting, collage, installation, sculpture, video or photography) with a set language,
canons and a historical lineage, to represent the cacophony of elements in my work.
